DVD player incorrectly connected to TV

As it turns out, a TV will try to do its job even when you give it the wrong information. The sound in this video was produced by connecting the video output from a DVD player to the audio input on a TV. The TV tries to interpret the video signal as an audio signal. This is perhaps an electronic equivalent to synthetic optical sound on film.

My first hypothesis was that different colors would produce different sounds, but I found that the sound was more closely related to the luminance of the video signal. I then made this video using various effects in Final Cut Pro. This video shows that variations in pitch, amplitude, rhythm, and even timbre are possible.
