Grand Isle, LA

two channel video projection; 41min, 50sec

This was video was shot on Grand Isle, an 8-mile long island off the southern tip of Lousiana, during the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. Grand Isle features a state highway running down its middle with tourist shacks and vacation homes lining either side, as well as a state park and an Exxon Mobil plant. The only land access to Grand Isle is via a long and elaborate section of Highway 1 jutting out of the bayous.

Channel 1: Shots of the cabins lining the highway.

Channel 2: A continuous shot as I walk down the length of the beach during sunset.

Here is a news story about the Grand Isle spill by Amy Goodman.
