When you order food at Panera Bread, the cashier asks for your name, which is then printed on the “kitchen bump ticket.” I collected all of my tickets (from 10/28/10–5/2/12) to see how many variations of the spelling of my name there would be.

Results: Ten spellings of Derek (Darek, Derec, Dereck, Derek, Derick, Derik, Derreck, Derrek, Derrick, Derrik) plus three misheard names (Garrett, Jared, Jerry). The title of the kōan is a regular expression that matches all of these variations. An alternate, simpler title is D620, which is the Soundex code for all the variations of Derek.
